Have you ever ever thought of putting opposite colours together to acheive a huge pop? When we used to work at MAC, we would often refer to mismatched eyeshadow looks as "ugly colours." The truth of the matter, is that they were not ugly colour combinations at all. If you look at a colour wheel, you will notice certain colours opposite each other on the wheel. These will provide the most contrast and accentuate your look. For example, when you pair blue and orange together (Go Oilers!), it creates a huge pop effect. This is why sports teams often use jerseys with "odd" colour pairings. Opposite colours are easily distinguished. What does this mean for you, sitting at home deciding what shadows to wear? This means you should try and choose colours the most opposite of your own eye colour. If you have blue eyes for example, wearing a copper or bronze tone will make your eyes appear bluer. We call this "colour combat." The colours are competing so much that they emphasize how stunning your eyes are. In this look, we used Morphe's 35o palette and 35B palette. Yes, we paired blue with a blue eye but broke it up with a warm brown transition colour and yellow on the inner corners. This is not your every day look but the contrast between the blacks, blues and warm browns created an extremely strong contrast and overall created a "colour combat." What strange colours do you like to pair?
